Google I/O 2025 Teases Material 3 Expressive, Android 16 For TV, In-Car Gemini

With Google sharing I/O 2025 sessions list this morning, we have a closer look at what to expect for Android at the developer conference.

  • Material 3 Expressive will be announced and detailed as “future of Google’s UX design.” It will feature “emotional design patterns” and new guidelines.
  • We’re getting more about Android XR, with the SDK Developer Preview advancing to Beta and becoming available at the event. You can expect the “public launch of Android XR later this year.”
  • Google mentioned Android 16 for TV as something developers can prepare for.
  • Gemini is coming to Google’s car platforms.
  • Google will talk about desktop windowing for Android to let “users manage multiple tasks.”
  • Google will “introduce a new set of generative AI APIs that harness the power of Gemini Nano” that can be used to “summarize, proofread, and rewrite text, as well as to generate image descriptions.”
