Samsung’s app ecosystem is nowhere close to Google’s on Android phones in popularity, but that doesn’t mean all Samsung apps on your Galaxy phone lag behind Google’s equivalent. Apps like Samsung Files, Secure Folder, and Samsung Internet are powerful enough to outperform Google’s versions in many important aspects. Now, you might want to add one more app to that list: Samsung Calendar.
Samsung has started pushing an update to the Samsung Calendar app on various Galaxy devices, adding several new features to make it a worthy contender for the best calendar apps on Android and even beat them in some cases. The most important change worth talking about in the latest Samsung Calendar update is support for drag and drop.

Samsung Calendar app now allows you to quickly reschedule events
Taking the Samsung Calendar app to version 12.6.01.17, the latest update adds the ability to drag and drop events to reschedule them to another date. So, after updating to the latest version, you can tap and hold a meeting and then move it to a different date to reschedule it. This isn’t something unheard of, as Google Calendar users have had this feature for years.
However, the drag-and-drop support in Google Calendar pales in comparison to what Samsung Calendar offers. The drag-and-drop feature works on all calendar views in Samsung Calendar, including Month, Week, and Day, whereas Google allows users only to use it in Day, 3 Day, and Week views. It’s worth noting that there is no such limitation to the drag-and-drop interaction on Google Calendar for the web – it’s only limited to the Android app.
Moreover, the latest Samsung Calendar update also lets you select events from a specific calendar to display them in the Calendar widget. Also, you can add a countdown widget, which is super helpful in tracking how much time you’ve left for the event. And lastly, it now offers the option to move all your Samsung Calendar events to other calendars at once.
However, it looks like Samsung is rolling out this update in a phased manner. We’ve received the update on some of our Galaxy S23 devices, while the update still hasn’t shown up on the Galaxy S21 phones. That said, it should only be a matter of time before Google rolls it out to everyone.
It’s not easy to ditch an application and move all your data to a new application, but Samsung Calendar with all these new features might be the right choice for you if you’re frustrated by the recent changes Google introduced to its Calendar app and are looking for an alternative.
