Gemini in Gmail is expanding with a new “Add to Calendar” shortcut that will “automatically detect calendar related content in your email.”
Today, Gmail shows a Gemini-powered “Summarize this email” button. That will soon be joined by “Add to Calendar” when Gmail detects event details in an email.
Tapping will open the Gemini side panel with Google automatically entering the event title, date, and start time. Other things to note include:
- The “Add to calendar” button will not appear for emails with already extracted events (like restaurants, flights, etc.).
- A calendar event created via the “Add to calendar” button will not include other guests.
This feature is rolling out first to web Gmail for English. It presumably makes use of an LLM’s ability to understand text.
This is rolling out starting today and will be fully available around mid-April for the following paid Google Workspace subscribers:
- Business Starter, Standard, and Plus
- Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus
- Customers with the Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-on
- Google One AI Premium
