Google has been adding Gemini to more corners of its ecosystem of services. It already has a presence in Gmail. Well, according to a new report, Gemini will be able to add Calendar events for you in Gmail, but there’s a very expected catch.
Right now, Gemini has the ability to add events to your calendar. All you have to do is ask Gemini to create an event for you and give it the details. That’s already easy enough. So, if you’re talking to someone about meeting at a certain time via email, setting that event is a piece of cake.
Gemini will be able to make Calendar events for you
While Google made it easy for you to set up events, the company wants to make it more intuitive. Users will see a new Add to Calendar button at the top of an email. It will sit right beside the Summarize this email button. The beauty of this feature is that it will actually read the context of the email and set up the event based on it. So, if you’re talking about meeting at the park next week at 2, then Gemini will be able to recognize that and create the appropriate event.

This is a pretty handy tool to save a little bit of time. So, what about that catch? Well, while Google does distribute many of its AI features for free, this isn’t one of them. You’ll need to either be on the Google One AI Premium plan or have a Google Workspace subscription. Free users are, unfortunately, left in the dust.
At this point, we don’t know if Google plans to distribute this feature to free users at some point. In any case, if you want to use this feature along with other powerful Gemini features, then you can sign up for Google One AI Premium for $19.99/month.
