TL;DR

  • Gemini Live now lets you add images, files, and YouTube videos to the conversation.
  • The app will be able to analyze the added content and then discuss it with the user.
  • The new functionality is currently only available on select Android phones.

Many of the headlines this week have been about the new Samsung hardware, but some would argue the Galaxy S25 series is only an iterative upgrade on its predecessors. That’s not to throw shade on the fantastic devices, but physical smartphone components have plateaued over the last couple of years, unlike the nascent AI technology they host. Gemini is taking bigger strides in its latest incarceration, including Gemini Live, which will now allow you to add images, files, and YouTube videos to the conversation.

Gemini Live is Google’s ChatGPT competitor that rolled out last year, designed to facilitate free-flowing conversations with users. Unlike traditional voice assistants, it allows for interruptions and topic changes mid-conversation, making interactions more dynamic and human-like.

Today’s announcement that you will now be able to add images, files, and YouTube videos to the Google Live chat was anticipated based on our discovery of some of the functionality in a beta version of the app last week. This allows users to discuss the content of a video or a PDF with Gemini Live without having to copy and paste the text or transcript to the app.

Unlike some of the other AI upgrades, this extra dimension to Gemini Live will initially only be available on certain Android phones. For now, it’s limited to the Galaxy S24 and S25 devices, as well as the Pixel 9 lineup. Google says the feature will expand to more Android devices in the coming week.s

Alongside the Gemini Live expansion, Gemini now offers a new access method on Samsung devices, extended support for Samsung apps, and multi-app chaining actions. It will soon integrate Project Astra features like screen sharing and live video streaming.
