After its last foldable generation fell flat, Samsung is finally expected to bring some major changes with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with a new report revealing the updated design and much thinner hardware that measures just 9.5mm when closed.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 launched in mid-2024 with a new design, but several shortcoming compared to competing foldable phones. It was much thicker at 12.1mm when closed, had a bigger display crease, and smaller displays than many other foldables as well. Samsung remedied much of that later in the year with the Galaxy Z Fold SE, and it seems the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will push things even further forward when it debuts later this year.
According to a new report from Android Headlines, sourcing data from @OnLeaks, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will measure in at 158.4 x 143.1 x 4.5mm when opened, and fall close to 9mm when the device is closed (9.5mm including the camera bump). That’s a major improved over the Galaxy Z Fold 6 which, as mentioned, measured in at 12.1mm when closed. It’s still a bit thicker than the current record holders, though, as the Honor Magic V3 measures 4.35mm when open, and the new Oppo Find N5 measures 4.21mm when open.
The report also reveals our first look at Samsung’s updated design, which really just looks like a wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. It has the same camera bump and squared corners.
Apparently, Samsung will be using an 8.2-inch inner display alongside a 6.5-inch outer display, both bigger than the prior generation, and also bigger than Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Despite the larger size, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 would have the same 4,400 mAh battery (as mentioned in other recent reports). The report does bring out other upgrades, such as a 200MP main camera.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to launch sometime in July.
