The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could end up featuring a much-improved periscope telephoto camera. This information comes from Digital Chat Station, one of the best-known Chinese tipsters.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra could finally get a much-improved periscope telephoto camera
Do note that the source did not specifically mention the Galaxy S26 Ultra, but what he said kind of suggests it. He said that Samsung is testing a new 200MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.5-inch sensor.
That is, of course, an ISOCELL camera, and it would be a perfect fit for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The Galaxy S24 Ultra uses a 50–megapixel periscope telephoto camera with a 1/2.52-inch sensor. That is far from a great sensor compared to the competition.
Vivo X100 Ultra and Vivo X200 Pro, along with some other competitors, are using much bigger sensors. The two phones in question are using 200MP cameras with 1/1.4-inch type sensors on the inside.
Samsung does need this boost, and we’re hoping that this new sensor will end up inside the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Speaking of which, the Galaxy S25 Ultra seemingly won’t get an upgraded periscope telephoto camera. So, next year’s model could.
The phone could even feature two 200MP cameras
In fact, if Samsung ends up sticking to a 200MP main camera, that smartphone could end up featuring two 200MP cameras on its back. Both its main and periscope telephoto cameras could be 200MP units.
This is all speculation at this point, though. Samsung is working on this 200MP periscope telephoto camera, but nothing guarantees that we’ll actually see it inside the Galaxy S26 Ultra. So, all we can do is wait.
As a reminder, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, and its siblings, will become official tomorrow, January 22. The company is hosting its first Unpacked event of the year, and the Galaxy S25 series phones will be stars of the show.
