Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge is an outlier among the company’s most recent lineup. It wasn’t released with the familiar party of three that users are used to seeing. Instead, The S25 Edge is a standalone release with some mysterious characteristics, like a lighter weight, obviously thinner body, and a price tag that apparently falls right around what the Galaxy S25+ costs.
Samsung Unpacked revealed what most users were expecting—a trio of phones that incrementally improved on the devices that came before them. Still, the launch was a success, and the Galaxy S25 series has been a well-received device, even if it is boring.
To quell that monotony, Samsung teased a new phone at the same event. That device carried a slimmer body by a hefty margin and supposedly combines the weight of the Galaxy S25 with the size of the S25+. It’s been controversially named the “Edge.”
According to @UniverseIce on Twitter/X, the Galaxy S25 Edge is also going to cost something “similar” to that of the S25+. The Galaxy S25+ retails for $1,200, and it packs a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC with three cameras and a 4,000mAh battery. The Galaxy S25 Edge, on the other hand, has two cameras and packs a 3,900mAh cell. It’s also been corroborated that the phone will come in at somewhere around 162g, with earlier reports initially noting that it would weigh less.
With it coming in at a similar price as the Galaxy S25+, one wonders what justification Samsung will use for the price. The Galaxy S25 series didn’t increase in price over last year, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bargain. With the Edge bringing a chassis that measures only 6mm, there are inevitably going to be come changes internally that allow for such a small form. Of course, it also wouldn’t make sense for the device to be as cheap as the Galaxy S25 considering the new direction Samsung is testing the waters in.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is supposed to be launched on April 16 during another Unpacked event.
