Samsung introduced its Galaxy AI features with the Galaxy S24 series last year. The company created the artificial intelligence suite to make your interactions with Samsung (such as the recently released Galaxy S25 family) devices more intuitive and useful. Galaxy AI is one of the most powerful and feature-rich AI suites, but it is not free of issues. A Reddit user has spotted an inconsistency in the Galaxy AI content filter regarding skin color.
Galaxy AI “inappropriate content” filter triggers while describing certain skin colors
It appears that Samsung’s Galaxy AI content filter is inconsistent in describing certain skin colors. In a Reddit post, user P26601 shared a few screenshots showing two examples of Galaxy AI’s Composer—a writing assistant—checking sentences for grammar and spelling. As you can see in the screenshots below, the Redditor checked the phrase “my skin is white” without any problem. However, the Galaxy AI refused to check the phrase “my skin is black” while suggesting it may contain inappropriate content.
It’s worth mentioning that the phrase “my skin is brown” didn’t trigger the Galaxy AI content filter. It only showed the “can’t correct spelling because the text seems to contain inappropriate content” error message while checking the phrase “my skin is black.” Furthermore, the feature is aggressive in moderating how anyone might describe the skin color of a third party. Galaxy AI’s Composer also suggested that the phrases “his skin is white” and “his skin is black” had inappropriate content.
Galaxy AI is far from being perfect
Similar to several other artificial intelligence assistants, Samsung’s Galaxy AI is far from being perfect. This isn’t the first time the AI suite has faced criticism for its content filter. Last year, several users raised questions regarding the content moderation policies. In one case, a frustrated Reddit user realized they couldn’t even use the word “poop” when exchanging messages with their kid’s doctor.
In another case, in a line where someone mentions a girl that they like is “cute, adorable, and hot,” Galaxy AI flagged the sentence as inappropriate. The user identified the word “hot” as the main issue that flagged the whole sentence. That said, we hope Samsung considers community feedback while improving the content moderation policies of the Galaxy AI suite.
