Fitbit Prompting Pixel Watch Users To Update Wear OS App

Most of the user-facing health and exercise features on the Pixel Watch are powered by the Fitbit Wear OS app and an update is rolling out today.

On Friday morning, the Fitbit app sent out an “Update available” notification to Pixel Watch owners: “Tap to start the update.” Hitting “Update” immediately opens the app listing in the on-device Play Store.

The app is updated several times a year, but this might be the first time users were prompted to install immediately. You go from version 3.25 to 3.27 after a 3.8 MB download. There are no immediate user-facing changes to the Fitbit Today, Exercise, or Relax apps/experiences. The Tiles and complications also appear the same after refreshing.

Additionally, this update does not appear to bring the Cardio load and Readiness cards (in Fitbit Today) to a Pixel Watch 2 that we checked today. We also don’t have the Readiness and Load Wear OS Tile from the Pixel Watch 3. Since those stats went free last month, Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2, as well as Fitbit OS trackers and smartwatches, owners have had to use the Fitbit app.

As a reminder, the Pixel Watch will not get an operating system update until March. However, first-party Google app updates — as seen today — will continue.
