Fitbit App Can No Longer Cast Workout Videos To TVs

One of the big perks of the Fitbit app is access to a huge collection of workout plans that include videos, but recent app updates have removed the ability to cast those videos to TVs.

For quite some time, the Fitbit app has supported the ability to send workout videos to a TV via Google Cast (or Chromecast built-in, as it was previously called). This made it easy to put that video up on the TV through the many TV sets that natively include this functionality, as well as Android/Google TV devices and the Chromecast.

Strangely, this functionality has recently been removed.

Starting in December 2024, users on Fitbit’s forums and Reddit have noted that the app has completely removed casting. In speaking with Fitbit support, some users were told that the feature is simply “no longer available.” The Google Store still references casting as a feature of both free and Premium workout videos. Android Central previously noted the removal earlier this month, and Google has yet to publicly acknowledge it.

The removal of casting in the Fitbit app appears to be intentional, but it’s unclear what it might mean going forward. In 2022, Fitbit suggested the idea of making its service available on “more devices, including connected home devices, TVs, and phones.” Before that, it was rumored that Google TV would pick up deeper Fitbit integration. But, well over two years later, there’s been no progress on that front.

What do you think of the removal of casting in the Fitbit app?
