Last year, Google launched its Find My Device network, its answer to Apple’s Find My network. With it, people can locate their devices even when they’re not connected to the internet. Well, it looks like Google could bring the Find My Device app to Wear OS.
At this point, you should have access to the Find MY Device network. If you have the Android app, then you should already be on it. Using the app, you can locate your devices if they get lost. Say, you leave your phone at a coffee shop. If you’re signed in to that device with your main Google account, you’ll be able to use the app or website to pinpoint its location.
Sometimes, companies leave little clues in their advertisements about upcoming announcements, and this might be what happened here. Google released an ad five months ago on YouTube advertising the Pixel Watch 3. In the ad, we got all of the trendy shots of computer-generated Pixel Watch 3s floating around and showing off their design.
However, one eagle-eyed viewer spotted something interesting about the ad and posted a screenshot to Reddit. About 17 seconds into the ad, we see six Pixel Watch 3s in a circle with each one showing something different. One shows Google Maps, another shows a camera feed from a Nest cam, another shows a media player, another shows Google Home, and another shows a workout.
The sixth watch shows what looks like a watch version of the Find My Device app. We see that the watch is tracking “Elisa’s Pixel.” We see the time the device was last seen, a mini-map, the device’s battery level, and the Play Sound button.
It’s a bit discouraging that Google launched this ad five months ago but hasn’t given any sort of hint or teaser about the app. For all we know, the company could have canceled it altogether. However, as noted by 9To5Google, this could be an expansion of the Find phone function that the Pixel Watch 3 already has. Maybe that feature will tap into the Find My Device network rather than bringing the entire app over.
Hopefully, Google will bring the Find My Device app to Wear OS. Being able to track all of your Google devices using your watch will be super handy. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
