Apple’s Foldable IPhone Might Have A Punch-Hole Camera On The Outside

The rumors about Apple’s foldable iPhone are getting more exciting. The latest details come directly from the supply chain. A Chinese leaker has shared some intriguing tidbits about what we might see on this long-awaited device. It seems that Apple will opt for a punch hole to integrate the selfie camera into the outer display, among other things.

Apple opting for a punch-hole camera on the foldable iPhone’s outer screen

Digital Chat Station, a reliable tipster, has shared the leaked details on Weibo. According to the post, the book-style foldable will sport a rather interesting camera setup. The inner, larger display is said to feature an “under-screen camera,” which would be quite a technical feat. The system will keep the main viewing area uninterrupted. However, it remains to be seen if Apple manages to minimize the loss in image quality. On the other hand, the foldable iPhone’s outer screen will reportedly feature a “punch-hole” camera.

These details come from what’s described as an updated prototype. This one is apparently a bit smaller than previous versions while maintaining the same resolution and aspect ratio. The latest report actually lines up with earlier whispers about a punch-hole selfie camera on the external display. The previous ones also suggested that Apple might be taking some design inspiration from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

The rumor mill has already revealed the potential screen sizes of the foldable iPhone. The device could have a 7.8-inch crease-free internal display and a 5.5-inch external screen. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has added to the picture, predicting a dual-lens rear camera and front-facing cameras that work whether the device is folded or unfolded. He also believes Apple will integrate Touch ID into the side button to save precious internal space. iPad Air users will find this implementation familiar.

Some hardware details could change

The timeline for final specifications is a bit of a moving target. Kuo suggests hardware details will be locked in during the second quarter of this year (April to June), meaning things could still shift. However, another analyst, Jeff Pu, claims the device has already entered the crucial New Product Introduction (NPI) phase at Foxconn. This often means key specs are pretty much set in stone.

It’s clear that Apple is carefully crafting its entry into the foldable market. It will be worth seeing how the Cupertino giant does in its first attempt in the segment.
