We need to admit that the age of cars with bare dashboards is about to end. New car models are coming out with pretty large displays that show all sorts of content from navigation apps to media players. Android Auto is a popular car operating system, and it comes with a ton of features. According to a new report, Android Auto is about to gain video streaming and browsing capabilities.
Google I/O has just happened, and the company announced some new and exciting news about Android, Gemini, and much more. Among the announcements, the company revealed that it’s going to bring some new features to Android Auto. Be sure to keep up to date with all the latest news about the event at Android Headlines.
Android Auto will soon get video streaming
Whether you like the fact that more cars are coming with displays or not, this is a trend that’s getting more popular. They can be a pretty big boon for people who want to navigate with ease of mind. However, we can’t deny that large displays within our field of view while we’re driving is a recipe for disaster.
This is why the types of apps you can use on your car’s infotainment system are limited. Google, however, has been planning on expanding the types of apps that you can install on your system. Google announced that you will soon be able to use video streaming and browser apps in your car. These features will only come to phones running Android 16 and a limited selection of compatible cars.
If you think that letting you watch videos and browse the internet while driving is a bad idea, you’d be correct. However, you won’t be doing those things while driving. Google will require you to be parked in order to use these features. So, if you’re on a trip or you’re waiting to pick someone up, and you just want to kick back and watch some videos, you can do that. However, the system won’t let you do that if you’re on the move.
Right now, these features are in testing. Google mentioned that they’re coming soon for cars running Android Auto. However, it’s a different story for cars with Google built-in. The browser feature is open for cars with Google Built-in and the video streaming feature is in beta.
