Software previews aren’t always perfect, but a bug in Android 16 Beta 3.1 actually might be something we’d like to see as a custom option for lockscreen clock settings.
The bug in question often occurs with the default lockscreen clock, which should ordinarily show thin double-lined text showing the current time. For some, the lockscreen clock text is much thicker and bold in appearance. Some of our team have experienced this issue since Beta 3, but it appears more regularly after the Beta 3.1 update.
One of our regular readers Matt has catalogued his experience with the bug in more detail over on the /r/Android_Beta subreddit. You’ll get the lockscreen bug on Android 16 Beta 3.1 more often with default clock layout. It’s not clear if this affects more layouts or themes; the only solution we’ve found so far is to power cycle your phone. It can happen at random, too, and isn’t easy to replicate. You can see the lockscreen bug on the left and how it should look on the right below:
As you can see, this looks quite striking and has zero effect on any other part of the Android 16 Beta experience. It’s merely a little quirk of the software preview. In fact, we’d kind of love to see it as an option as a lockscreen clock in a future Android release – especially as changes in this release so far have been few and far between.
Have you tried Android 16 Beta 3.1? If so, are you seeing the same bug with any of your lock screen clock settings or themes? Let us know down in the comment section below.
