AI Might Join The Workforce In 2025, According To Sam Altman

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has a goal that much of the tech industry has. He wants to bring AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) to life. We’ve known that from the start, but it looks like he’s going to take this dream even more seriously over the course of the year. According to a personal blog post, OpenAI’s CEO believes that AI will join the workforce this year.

Artificial intelligence is a double-edged sword; it can help, it can hurt. However, the CEOs of the most prominent AI companies have a vision of superintelligent AI agents that can do any and everything they’re asked. For better or worse. As advanced as it is now, companies like OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft, Google, Perplexity, Anthropic, and many others are not happy with where it is. They’re aiming for what’s called AGI.

AGI is basically an AI that is as smart or smarter than a human being. When/if it reaches that point, we predict that it will be devoid of hallucinations and the other pitfalls that we have to deal with nowadays.

OpenAI will focus on superintelligence this year

Altman, along with posting announcements as short and sweet posts on X.com, has a blog where he fleshes out his ideas. In the latest post, titled “Reflections”, he reflects on the company. He spoke about why OpenAI was started and dropped the news that the company is almost nine years old.

Among the sea of words, Altman revealed a pretty worrying prediction. “We are now confident we know how to build AGI as we have traditionally understood it. We believe that, in 2025, we may see the first AI agents “join the workforce” and materially change the output of companies.”

That’s a pretty scary prediction. The fear of AI replacing jobs is at a height because companies seem to improve their AI almost every day. Companies, big and small, are eating up the technology like its cotton candy, and it’s a matter of time before we see sweeping layoffs because of it.

Now, there are very few people who are as plugged into the AI scene as Sam Altman. So, if he says that something will happen in the AI world, we tend to listen. We don’t know what “joining the workforce” means in his book, but what it means to most other people is unemployment. Hopefully, his prediction won’t come to fruition.
