ADT’s Nest-Integrated Security System Gets A Fingerprint Door Lock And Major App Update

ADT is announcing two new updates to its Google Nest-integrated ADT+ security system including a new door lock that supports your fingerprint, as well as an overdue app redesign.

Following its debut last year, ADT is introducing support for new hardware in its ADT+ security system. This comes in the form of the Z-Wave-connected Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch. This new smart lock looks much like the existing Yale lock for ADT’s system, but has the advantage of offering a built-in fingerprint sensor for quick and easy entrance to your home with no key code needed.

ADT explains:

Assure Lock 2 Touch with Z-Wave 800 Series is designed to integrate seamlessly with ADT+ for an elevated security experience, offering multiple unlocking methods, including the new fingerprint recognition for biometric-based security, keypad code entry, traditional physical key access, virtual key control through the ADT+ app, or Trusted Neighbor’s Auto Unlock feature. By directly integrating with the ADT+ Base, the lock uniquely enables users to arm and disarm their security system from the lock itself, creating a streamlined security experience.

Fingerprints can be stored for those who live in the home, as well as “Trusted Neighbors” which can have their access windows adjusted within the ADT+ app. Their fingerprint is stored and ready, but only works when the homeowner allows it.

Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch is available to ADT+ owners for $279.99, both as an add-on during initial setup or after the system has already been installed.

Beyond that, ADT is also releasing a major update to the ADT+ app for mobile devices. The v3.6 update introduces an updated new design for the entire app which, in our brief testing, feels faster and more fluid, especially in regards to integrated Nest cameras.

Far more importantly, the app now supports Home and Away modes (branded as Home | Away) that can be automated based on devices in the home and the current occupancy. There are also some new convenience features added in such as biometrics for unlocking and verifying in the app. Previously, your ADT PIN needed to be entered any time the system was armed or adjusted, something we’ve taken issue with for nearly two years now. You can also now assign specific Familiar Faces to your Trusted Neighbor members, where previously the system would “Auto-Unlock” based on any Familiar Face combined with an approved device being nearby.

ADT explains:

With the ADT+ 3.6 update, users gain access to Home | Away, a feature that detects the location of participating mobile devices within a home’s geofence to determine occupancy. If all registered devices leave the home, the system can automatically switch to Away mode, intelligently triggering security automations such as locking doors, adjusting smart home settings, and arming the security system. Key Home | Away capabilities include:

  • View real-time occupancy status in the ADT+ dashboard.
  • Receive automated alerts when the system is unarmed, and no one is home.
  • Grant Trusted Neighbors and Helpers access during their designated window.
  • Provide ADT monitoring agents with visibility into home occupancy during an alarm event (for Pro-Monitored customers).
  • Manually update your home status at any time.

The ADT+ v3.6 update is now rolling out via the Play Store and App Store.
