HONOR Is Developing Its Own 1-Inch Camera Sensor For Smartphones

A very interesting piece of news has just landed from China. HONOR is seemingly developing its own 1-inch camera sensor to use in an upcoming flagship. The information comes from Smart Pikachu, a tipster.

Both GSM Arena and Huawei Central reported that the sensor is aimed at the HONOR Magic8 RSR Porsche Design, but that’s not necessarily the case. Smart Pikachu did not mention it specifically, he simply said that it will be reserved for the larger flagship. He probably meant the regular HONOR Magic8 Pro.

The RSR model is a special edition variant that gets released in collaboration with Porsche Design. It usually shares the vast majority of internals with the ‘Pro’ model. The Magic7 RSR variant included a better periscope telephoto camera.

We’re not expecting HONOR to make a difference in the main camera between these two smartphones, at least not when it comes to sensor size. Chances are that this camera will be used on both phones, if it ends up being used at all.

We’re not sure what camera sensor OEM is HONOR partnering up with

This is quite interesting, though. HONOR will likely adapt one of the existing 1-inch camera sensors, as the company is not exactly in the business of creating camera sensors from scratch. Chances are, it’s working with another company to do this.

A variable aperture will also be included in the package, most likely. We’re just not sure how many stops will it have this time around. It remains to be seen. It’s still too early to guess anything, the device likely won’t arrive until the very end of the year.

HONOR is rumored to launch the HONOR Magic7 Mini in the near future. A more compact high-end smartphone to go with the Magic7, Magic7 Pro, and Magic7 RSR Porsche Design handsets.

That smartphone is tipped to have a 6.3-inch display, and it will likely resemble the Magic7 and Magic7 Pro when it comes to its design. A quad micro-curved design is expected here. We’re not sure if that phone will launch globally, if it arrives at all.
