After introducing in October, Fitbit Labs has pulled the Insights Explorer that lets you “ask questions about your health and fitness data.”
This was essentially a chatbot powered by the Gemini-derived “Personal Health Large Language Model” based on your steps, Active Zone Minutes, sleep score, sleep duration, bed/awake time, deep/light/REM sleep, heart rate variability, and resting heart rate.
Responses would include “personalized insights” in the form of trends, summaries, explanations, and charts. Example queries include:
- Averages (Example: “What was my average daily step count last month?”)
- Trends (Example: “How are my Active Zone Minutes trending?)
- Correlations (Example: “Do my Active Zone Minutes have an impact on my resting heart rate?”)
- Highest/lowest values for a period (Example: “What day did I sleep the longest last month?”)
- Medians (Example: “What is the median number of steps I have taken this year?”)
- Personal bests/worsts (Example: “When was my most restful night of sleep last month?”)
- Comparisons (Example: “How did my bed time differ on weekends versus weekdays last month?”)
- General explanations and definitions of health and wellness terms (“Example: “What is resting heart rate?”)
Earlier this week, the Fitbit app started displaying a notice about how “Insights explorer testing will conclude on Feb 28, 2025. Thank you for your participation and valuable feedback.”

As of Saturday, it’s no longer appearing. In fact, “Fitbit Labs” in the account menu is entirely gone if you’re not in the Sleep Insights & Tips lab.
If testing went well, Insight explorer will presumably launch as a Fitbit Premium capability in the future. The Labs interface was web-based and something more native would be nice.
