Samsung Could Win The XR Glasses Game With One Feature

There’s a ton of buzz behind Samsung’s upcoming XR headset, but the South Korean tech giant isn’t stopping there. The company is also working on a pair of glasses. If details on the headset are scarce, details on the glasses are nonexistent. However, it looks like Samsung’s XR glasses might have adjustable lenses.
XR headsets and glasses stand apart from other tech form factors because of their reliance on eyesight. If a person has bad eyesight, then it could be difficult to impossible to use a headset or pair of glasses. This is something that Samsung aims to help with this innovation.
It’s important, however, to note that this was from a patent filing. As such, you’ll want to take this news cautiously. Companies file patents for tech and devices, but not all of them actually come to fruition. Sometimes, it’s to reserve ownership of that tech in case they want to do something with it.
Samsung’s XR glasses could have adjustable lenses
Not everyone has perfect eyesight, but everyone should enjoy the benefits of XR devices. This is why certain devices either come with attachments to accommodate glasses, like the Meta Quest headsets, or allow you to add your prescription lenses.
Samsung has a bit of a different approach with its glasses. According to the patent (via Sam Mobile), it looks like the company will add a mechanism to the glasses that will allow the user to attach their lenses. Then, the user will be able to move the lenses back and forth to adjust the clarity of the image. This means that people wearing glasses will be able to fine-tune what they see.
This is great, as users who need glasses won’t have to deal with vision issues. Using this system seems like it will cause the glasses to sit further from your face. The XR glasses we’ve seen from companies thus far have been rather large. However, all of the companies making XR glasses are much smaller compared to Samsung. Hopefully, Samsung, and its $295 billion, can find a way of shrinking the glasses and revolutionizing the XR glasses industry.
