Using Google’s Veo 2 Is Easy… And Expensive As Hell!

It wasn’t a matter of time before image generators turned into video generators. With major companies like OpenAI and Amazon behind this technology, anyone could have guessed that it would take off. Google is one of those companies, and its Veo 2 model is pretty powerful, but it’s expensive!

This should come as no surprise. Image generation platforms can have people paying a bunch of money each month. Video generation is more costly for the companies developing the AI, and that cost trickles down to the user. Since the technology is still relatively new to the mainstream, the costs are still pretty high. As time goes on, the tech behind video generation will get cheaper and more accessible, however.

We recently got the news that Google planned to let people use Veo 2 with their YouTube Shorts. The model will let people generate backgrounds and video intros. However, people looking to use the model for other purposes will need to pony up some serious money.

Just making one of those 10-second clips (you know, the ones where scoops of ice cream turn into hamsters or something) will cost you $5. So, if you want to make a 30-second short, you’re looking at $15. Is it worth it? That’s for you to decide.

The thing with Google’s Veo 2 model is that it can generate clips at up to 4K resolution. That’s rather impressive, as Sora is capped at 1080p. Also, Veo can spit out video clips up to two minutes in length. If you want to “create” your two-minute masterpiece it’ll cost you $60.

Since people will pay for each generation, we’re not sure how many video clips we’ll see in the wild from Veo. There are already some tools out there that people can use to generate video clips. However, the AI market has surprised us thus far; when Imagen and DALL-E first hit the market, we all thought that it would be years before we see AI-generated images on the market, but just look at the internet now!

So, there’s no telling if this payment model will take off. Only time will tell.
