TECNO May Bring Its Tri-Fold Phone Prototype, AI Advances To MWC

Now, TECNO has teased the technologies that it could show during MWC 2025, focusing on AI, the faithful representation of all skin tones in photos, and a possible tri-fold phone prototype.

In 2023, TECNO started a campaign advocating to improve the representation of different skin tones in photos. At that time, the company launched the Universal Tone technology, and it seems that it has continued to work on improving it relentlessly. TECNO uses the power of AI to enhance the realistic representation of every skin color in photos taken with its devices. The company has had a lot of success in Asia and Africa, so it seems natural that they would focus on correctly representing the wide variety of skin tones present there.

In a new development, the company announced the expansion of its “Skin Tone Database.” TECNO has collected up to 372 color patches for the Multi Skin Tone Color Card integrated into the camera software of its mobile devices. Its main goal is to achieve a representation of skin tones as faithful to reality as possible. They are especially focusing on skin tones from Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Additionally, Saudi Arabia will have a “region-specific” 186-patch color card. All of this work will be integrated into the Universal Tone engine that aims for faithful representation of reality even in “challenging scenarios.”

TECNO is also working with AI to offer innovative products. The company could show a pair of AI-powered smart glasses and a new laptop. Plus, we could get more details about its Phantom Ultimate 2 tri-fold phone. The company teased the device last year, although there was no close demonstration with the public. It’s a concept device, so there’s no guarantee it will make it to the commercial market. However, the applied technologies could be leveraged for other products.

The company could also show off more of its Starry Optical Fiber tech at MWC 2025. Unveiled in early 2025, it relies on “ultra-fine optical fibers” to create unique lighting patterns that transform the phone’s design.

Lastly, the company talked about its interest in “practical AI.” So, we could see improvements to Ella, TECNO’s AI-powered assistant, announced last year. Google Gemini has already helped improve Ella’s capabilities before. It will be interesting to see what the firm has in store now.
