Gemini Can Now Recall Past Chats To Offer More Helpful Responses

Google introduced its generative artificial intelligence chatbot called Gemini in 2023 in response to the rising popularity of OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI assistant. Since its introduction, Google has launched many versions of the Gemini AI assistant. Also, the company has been improving the Gemini experience by constantly introducing new features and upgrades regularly. Just recently, Google released an update for the Gemini Live assistant to offer a “more dynamic and engaging” experience. Now, the search titan has upgraded Gemini to recall past chats.

Gemini is now capable of providing more mindful responses

In a blog post on Thursday, Google announced that the Gemini artificial assistant can now recall past chats to provide more relevant responses. For example, if you asked the assistant for information about the Solar System earlier days in the week, you can simply ask it to “summarize our discussion about the Solar System”. Then, Gemini will create a summary of your earlier discussions with it regarding the Solar System.

Thanks to the new update, you’ll no longer need to recap previous conversations or search for a thread to pick up a conversation. Gemini will already have the context it needs for the new queries. It’s worth mentioning that Google already widely released the ability for Gemini to remember your preferences. However, the latest update takes things a step further by allowing the chatbot to reference discussions from the past.

Furthermore, you can also review, delete, and manage your chat history with the Gemini AI assistant. You can do it by tapping your profile photo in the top-right corner of the Gemini app and then hitting the “Gemini Apps Activity” option. Google’s blog post explains that “you control what information you store”.

Only Gemini Advanced subscribers currently have access to the chat recall feature

As of now, the Gemini AI assistant is only offering the chat recall feature in English for Gemini Advanced subscribers. Google One AI Premium Plan offers it via the Gemini web and mobile applications. Google will roll out the new feature in more languages and for Google Workspace Business and Enterprise consumers in the coming weeks. It’s worth adding that OpenAI’s ChatGPT assistant can also recall chats and preferences from older conversations.
