Apple TV now has an official Android app for mobile devices, giving users another way to enjoy Apple TV+ content while on the go. Apple TV+ has been available for quite a few years now with a wide range of compelling original content from TV shows to movies. Breakout hits like Ted Lasso dominated discussions between friends for several seasons.
While shows like Foundation sparked the imagination of Sci-Fi fans. The Apple TV app has been available for Google devices in general for the past few years. It launched in 2021 for Google TV, but it wasn’t available for Android mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. That meant there was a limitation to watching the content on your Android mobile device. In fact the only option was watching content through the Apple TV+ website.
Either that or you’d need to watch the content from a laptop. If you were at home, it was easy enough to turn on your Google TV and launch the official app there. Now, Android mobile will have the same great access to content as those on iPhone and iPad.
The official Apple TV app for Android is available on Google Play
Whether you’re a first-time Apple TV or Apple TV+ user or you’re a seasoned veteran looking for a new way to enjoy the available content, you can now grab the app from the Google Play Store. There don’t seem to be any major requirements in terms of device support. So most users should have no trouble installing the app. That is unless you’re still on a really old version of Android that hasn’t been updated in several years.
The Apple TV app includes Apple TV+ content which is likely to be the bulk of what most users watch through it. The app also includes access to the MLS Season Pass for Major League Soccer fans. Keep in mind that you still have to pay for the MLS Season Pass as well as the subscription to Apple TV+. These are subscription-based services, after all. There is a silver lining here, though.
Installing the app comes with a 7-day free trial to Apple TV+
Apple TV+ can feel expensive if you already have subscriptions to a few other services. At $9.99 a month, however, it isn’t the most expensive streaming service out there. Plus, it truly does have some of the best original content you can lay your eyes upon. The good news is that installing the app on your Android mobile device seems to come with a 7-day free trial to Apple TV+.
At least, this was the case for me when I installed it on my Google Pixel 8. I am also not a new Apple TV+ subscriber. I have had the service a few times before, with one of those times being for about six months thanks to a trial on PS5. I’ve also subscribed to it via the monthly fee for several months as well. So this doesn’t seem to be limited to new subscribers. However, it may not apply if you currently have an active subscription. I don’t, and I saw the message pop up for the free trial. So, make of that what you will.
