Take-Two CEO Says GTA VI Will Cause PS5 And Xbox Sales Increase

GTA VI is poised to be one of this year’s biggest games, perhaps its biggest game, and it’s the kind of game that would drive sales of consoles. That shouldn’t be surprising. GTA V was a huge success and its follow-up is likely to be more of a success in every sense of the word.

That success has a great chance of convincing people to buy current generation consoles. You’ll need one to play GTA VI right away. The alternative is waiting for it to release on PC which is bound to take some time. Even if it is unclear exactly how much time. GTA VI is expected to launch sometime in the Fall of 2025 with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick still confident that the game’s release window hasn’t changed.

Zelnick also recently spoke with IGN, where he was asked about Rockstar and Take-Two’s decision not to launch GTA VI on PC at the same time as consoles. Zelnick acknowledged the importance of PC as a gaming platform and stated that it typically ends up contributing to a 40% increase in sales for the company. He also made a point to highlight the sales increases that both Sony and Microsoft can expect once GTA VI is available.

GTA VI will drive console sales as history shows of big titles

While it’s unclear how much GTA VI will drive sales, Zelnick says that it’s likely. He says that historically, big titles in the market drive console sales. GTA VI is no doubt going to be a big title in the market. It’s not the only one coming this year, but it’s certainly the most anticipated. So much so that Zlenick believes that people will look to jump into this generation of consoles for the first time just to play the game. As opposed to waiting for its PC release. Even if it is worth the wait.

Zelnick also says that the sales will be a “meaningful uptick.” Zelnick’s statement refers to a question from IGN about falling console sales. To which he responds that he’s not worried.

PC players may be looking at a 2026 release date at the earliest

Take-Two has been clear that PC won’t be getting GTA VI at the same time as consoles. That means it could be at least 2026 before PC gets the game. It could be even later. Looking back at the PC release of GTA V, it wasn’t until April of 2015 before the PC release. It launched for PS3 and Xbox 360 in September of 2013. Then for PS4 and Xbox One in November of 2014.

If Rockstar and Take-Two follow the same kind of cadence, it’s even possible that the PC release of GTA VI could be all the way in 2027. Time will tell, of course. For now, playing as early as possible means having to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
