Galaxy S25 Edge Sacrificed Third Rear Camera At The Last Moment
Contents
It seems like Samsung sacrificed the third rear camera on the Galaxy S25 Edge at the last moment. SmartPrix partnered up with @OnLeaks in order to reveal the story behind the Galaxy S25 Edge’s design.
As you may recall, @OnLeaks originally shared the Galaxy S25 Edge design, though the phone was known as the Galaxy S25 Slim back then. That design showed us three cameras on the back.
The design turned out to be false, and @OnLeaks figured out why. Samsung had two prototypes on the table and had to choose one at the last moment. The company went with the one with two rear cameras.
The phone will be 5.84mm thick, and will have a rather small battery pack
Samsung opted to sacrifice the telephoto camera in order to get an even slimmer smartphone. The phone will be 5.84mm thin, though that design does not come without another obvious tradeoff… its battery.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to have a rather large display, possibly the same one as the Galaxy S25+. So you can expect a 6.7-inch display and a 3,900mAh battery should be able to keep it running… along with other high-end specs inside the phone.
That could be a problem. The much smaller Galaxy S25 has a larger 4,000mAh battery, while it includes a 6.2-inch display. That phone actually managed to surprise us with its battery life, but still… this doesn’t seem to be the best idea.
Android smartphones with such large displays have a lot larger battery packs. We’re sure that this phone won’t break any records in terms of battery life, but it will be interesting to see its performance in that regard.
The original prototype was 6.4mm thick
With that being said, the original prototype with three rear cameras was 6.4mm thick. That was also immensely thin, but Samsung wanted more. We’re not sure what was the battery capacity in that unit, by the way.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge was teased during the Unpacked event last month, but it was not fully announced. A proper launch is tipped for April or May this year. Some of its specs leaked too.
