AirTag’s Luggage Tracking Feature Is Now Available For More Airlines

Apple added a new feature to AirTags with iOS 18.2 in November last year. It allowed users to temporarily share their AirTag’s location with a trusted person, including airlines. This feature made tracking luggage with airlines very easy. At the time, only a few airlines offered this function. Now, a handful of more airlines can use the AirTag luggage tracking feature.

Virgin Atlantic and a few more airlines have adopted AirTag’s tracking feature

Earlier this week, Virgin Atlantic announced that it now supports the new AirTag feature. In addition, Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings Airlines have also adopted the new AirTag functionality. Some of the other airlines that already offer the feature include Delta, United, Air Canada, and Air New Zealand.

Apple device users running iOS 18.2 can now track their luggage with AirTag

AirTag’s new feature lets airlines find missing baggage much faster. If you already have an AirTag in your checked luggage, then airlines will be able to locate it easier than before. Apple device users running iOS version 18.2 or later, as well as macOS 15.2 on Mac or later can use this feature.

Those Apple users can quickly generate a “Share Item Location” in the Find My application. Whoever they share this link with can view the location of the item on a map. Notably, the page will automatically update with the item’s latest known location.

Apple has worked with the airlines to put systems in place to “privately and securely” accept the “Share Item Location” links. It’s worth mentioning that a small number of people have limited access to each link. Furthermore, the airport employees must “authenticate” themselves to check the link by signing into their Apple account or partner email ID. Apple said more airlines will adopt the new AirTag functionality in the coming months. So, if you have an AirTag, and you travel a lot, then you should use this feature.
