Garmin’s GPS Smartwatches Leave Users With A Boot Loop Bug
Contents
The popular wearable brand Garmin has been in the news since yesterday morning for some bad reasons. Do you own a Garmin smartwatch that is now stuck in a blue triangle boot loop? If yes, you’re not alone. Several Garmin smartwatch users have flooded Reddit and the Garmin Forums, complaining about the ongoing issue.
Many Garmin GPS smartwatches are stuck in a boot loop
The boot loop issue has reportedly plagued many smartwatches from popular lineups like the Forerunner, Vivoactive, Venu, Epix, Edge, Descent, Fenix, Lily, Marq, and Instinct 3. From the looks of it, it’s a pretty big issue and has affected users from several countries. Users from Austria, India, France, the UK, the US, and more have reported about it.
Garmin officially acknowledged that it is aware of the widespread boot loop issue. The company hinted that the bug appears to be triggering when a user starts an outdoor activity requiring GPS connectivity.
Garmin’s official statement on the support page reads, “Garmin is researching reports of devices displaying a blue triangle when starting a GPS activity. A reset by pressing and holding the power button may restore functionality. We will provide more information on a permanent fix when available.” While some Garmin smartwatch users mentioned the official workaround helps fix the issue, it appears to be temporary.
A few workarounds that are worth trying
If you’re lucky and your smartwatch restarts normally without the boot loop issue, Garmin advises you to do a few things. First, sync your Garmin smartwatch with the Garmin Connect app on your phone. You can also choose to sync it via Garmin Express on a PC. The company says this will prevent the issue from triggering again, but user reports say otherwise.
Factory resetting Garmin smartwatches is another option to fix the blue triangle boot loop issue. However, you’ll lose some important data, including Garmin Wallet, Connect IQ content, body battery data, hotkey and shortcut controls, and more. If you’re willing to try a few more workarounds, head over to this Reddit thread.
