Galaxy Unpacked Included A Teaser For Samsung’s Tri-Fold Phone
Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone was teased this morning at the company’s first Galaxy Unpacked event of the year. While the device has been rumored for months, this is the first time that Samsung has actually acknowledged a tri-folding phone with regard to its own endeavors. Galaxy Unpacked was mostly focused on the Galaxy S25 series including the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, there were a few other things that Samsung touched on.
A big part of the event revolved around Galaxy AI. As well as the enhancements it will bring to Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series phones. For a brief moment, however, a tri-fold phone is teased toward the end of the Galaxy Unpacked live stream. It’s only on-screen for a moment, and Samsung doesn’t actually say that it’s making such a device. Nor does it refer to it by name like it does the Galaxy S25 Edge.
If you pay close attention though, you can spot it pop up on the big screen behind the stage.
Samsung’s tri-fold phone teaser at Galaxy Unpacked relates to AI and multimodal agents
As mentioned earlier a sizeable portion of Galaxy Unpacked revolved around AI. Near the 1 hour and 26-minute mark, Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience Jay Kim comes on stage and begins talking about AI agents and Gemini Live. He goes on to say that Gemini Live on the Galaxy S25 provides a glimpse into AI agents that better understand what a user sees and says.
He continues by stating that multimodal AI will transform the way users interact with their devices. While he references smartphones and wearables first, he also slides in a brief mention of new form factors, including multi-folds and XR devices. Kim doesn’t go into any other detail about the tri-fold phone. So there’s not much else to know about Samsung’s plans with it. Other than this brief mention of a “multi-fold” and the sketch of one that accompanies it.
The phone may launch later this year
There have been a few rumors surrounding the launch of this new device. The most recent suggests it’s coming sometime later this year. This launch would be the fourth foldable for Samsung in 2025 according to the rumor. With the others being the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and long-rumored Galaxy Z Flip FE. Samsung holds one other Galaxy Unpacked this year and it’ll be the one that focuses on foldable devices.
If Samsung plans to dip a toe into the waters of tri-fold phones in 2025, then that’s probably when you can expect to officially hear about it.
