Samsung Could Launch Galaxy Earbuds With Cameras

2025 could mark the beginning of a boom in the XR segment. According to reports, several companies are working on headsets and smart glasses. However, some are also considering alternative technologies for other types of products. A recent report claims that Samsung, Meta, and Apple want to incorporate cameras into their earbuds.

Earbuds are among the most common accessories these days. Chances are you’ll find many people wearing them on the street. They could even be as common as glasses—or more so. It seems that some companies want to take advantage of it to offer more smart features on the go.

Samsung “considering” Galaxy Buds with integrated cameras

As reported by Bloomberg, Samsung is currently “considering a version with cameras,” referring to its earbuds. However, there are no more specific details on the matter. The source only revealed that the South Korean giant has been mulling over the idea. According to previous leaks, Apple has been doing the same thing since at least last year.

Meta has been playing around with the format as well. The company has a lot of experience with smart wearables thanks to its work on Ray-Ban smart glasses. The report says that a camera-equipped earbud could “let users look at an object and ask the earbuds to analyze the item.” However, the firm has encountered technological challenges to overcome before a potential implementation in a final product. The list includes poor viewing angles and camera visibility issues on users with long hair.

Bloomberg adds that, in Meta’s case, the camera-equipped earbuds are in the prototype stage. So, it’s still possible that they may never even make it to the commercial market if the company can’t work out the development-related issues.

Meta doubles its efforts in wearables

The leak also offered some additional details about wearable tech that Meta is working on. The company plans to launch an Oakley Sphaera-style “Supernova 2” glass frame with an integrated camera this year. The frame is being designed in collaboration with Luxottica with athletes—especially cyclists—in mind.

Hypernova” smart glasses from Meta are also reportedly set to come out in 2025. They will have a “display on the bottom portion of the right lens that projects information into a user’s field of view.” The display could show things like notifications, photo previews, and more. The price of these glasses could be around $1,000, which is much more than the current Ray-Bans.

Meta could also be resuming a project to develop a smartwatch. The wearable could arrive this year and be seamlessly linked to the company’s smart glasses. For example, you could take a photo with your Ray-Bans and see it on the watch’s screen. Lastly, a second version of the “Orion” XR glasses prototype that was shown off last year might come out in 2027. This time, the product could actually make it to the consumer market.
