Samsung Aims To Launch New Rugged Phone With A Surprising Name

Samsung is planning to launch a new rugged phone, it seems, and it will have a somewhat surprising name. The device in question is the Galaxy XCover7 Pro, in case you were wondering.

The upcoming rugged phone from Samsung will have a surprising name

The Samsung Galaxy XCover7 launched about a year ago. Prior to that, the Galaxy XCover6 Pro landed (2022), and before that the Galaxy XCover5 (2021). The naming scheme that Samsung is using sure is odd.

The company went from the Galaxy XCover5, to XCover6 Pro, to XCover 7. Now, Samsung seemingly plans to jump to the Galaxy XCover7 Pro, which will be the first time ever that it used the same series (name) two years in a row.

This name has been revealed through some “code from reliable sources”, as the source claims. The name ‘XCover7 Pro’ is clearly mentioned in there. This phone should be MIL-STD-810H certified on top of being water and dust resistant.

What else do we know? Well, the device is expected to utilize a somewhat surprising SoC too. It will be fueled by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, it would seem. The Galaxy XCover7 arrived with the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+.

Its launch timeframe is… difficult to guess

If you’re wondering when will the device arrive exactly, well, that’s a mystery. The Galaxy XCover7 did arrive in January 2024, but the Galaxy XCover6 Pro, its predecessor, launched in June 2022. The Galaxy XCover5 arrived in March 2021.

So, as you can see, Samsung doesn’t exactly have a clear guideline when it comes to these launch events. It’s all over the place. So the Galaxy XCover7 Pro could arrive this month, or at any point from now to mid-year.

We’re not really sure what to expect when it comes to other specs. The Galaxy XCover7 included a 6.6-inch 60Hz display and up to 6GB of RAM. It had a single 50-megapixel camera on the back and a 4,050mAh battery. We do expect some notable improvements this time around.
