TikTok Reassures Employees Ahead Of US Ban Deadline

Immensely popular social networking platform TikTok is facing a ban in the US, which will come into effect on January 19. As of now, TikTok is waiting for the Supreme Court to announce its decision, which will go official on Wednesday. In the meantime, TikTok has revealed its plans for what it will do once the US finalizes its ban.

TikTok plans to keep paying US employees even after the ban

TikTok has sent a memo to its employees outlining its plans to implement once the US finalizes its ban. The company wants to calm the waters among its probably worried American workforce. The internal document, obtained by The Verge, states that TikTok will continue to pay its employees in the country. This will be the case even if the court does not overturn a law on the potential ban of the platform. The China-based ByteDance-owned platform has nearly 7,000 employees in the US only.

Furthermore, the memo reads that the pay and benefits of the US employees are secure for the foreseeable future. TikTok’s offices in the US will remain open, even if this situation doesn’t resolve before the January 19 deadline.

TikTok scenarios going forward

If you are unaware, a law signed by President Biden mandates ByteDance to sell TikTok to a US company or face a ban. In the first scenario, many desire to buy the popular short video-sharing platform. Frank McCourt, a billionaire real estate and former LA Dodgers owner, has shown his interest in buying TikTok’s US operations. “Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary recently signed onto McCourt’s proposal. Both met with Donald Trump to talk about this proposal called Project Liberty.

Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, is one of the most popular candidates in line to purchase TikTok’s US operations. X (formerly Twitter)-owner has shown his interest in purchasing TikTok many times in the past. In November last year, TikTok CEO Shou Chew sought insights from Elon Musk regarding the looming danger of facing a ban in the US. Musk is one of Donald Trump’s closest confidants, who also doesn’t want TikTok to cease its operation in the US.

That said, TikTok could get a 270-day extension to make a deal in the US. It all depends on the Supreme Court’s decision that will come out this Wednesday. We will continue updating on the matter, so stay tuned to Android Headlines for regular updates.
