Summary

  • A Samsung executive has defended the Galaxy S25 Edge’s mediocre battery life.
  • He believes the S25 Edge is the “Goldilocks” of smartphones despite its shortcomings.
  • Some people want a thin and light phone that can last from “sun up to sun down,” and the Galaxy S25 Edge is for them.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge stands out for its ultra-slim 5.8mm design. But while it’s certainly a talking point, early sales figures suggest the slim phone has failed to attract consumers. In a bid to achieve the sleek profile, the company had to sacrifice on several key aspects, including battery life. However, a Samsung executive believes otherwise, describing the Galaxy S25 Edge as the “Goldilocks” of smartphones.

Tom’s Guide interviewed Samsung’s Blake Gaiser, Director of Smartphone Product Management at Samsung Electronics America, and discussed the criticism around the Galaxy S25 Edge. The executive says, “…I hear those naysayers, I’m like, okay, get your hands on the device, and then let’s see what your opinion is.”

He praises the S25 Edge as being the “Goldilocks” of smartphones, delivering flagship-level performance and image quality like other Android phones. He further adds that the phone is for people who “want a light, tech-forward, fashionable device” with flagship-like performance.

When asked about the sub-par battery life by the interviewer, Gaiser defended it by saying the phone provides runtime close to the base S25. “And so as long as you can live with it from sun up to sun down without having any issues, we think that’s a great experience. And personally, I haven’t had much of an issue with the battery life whatsoever,” said the executive.

Samsung could have used a higher-density silicon carbide battery inside the Galaxy S25 Edge to improve its battery life. Instead, the company stuck to a lithium-ion cell. On this, Gaiser explained that with the Snapdragon 8 Elite and agentic AI boosting performance and efficiency, the company believed it could stick with the older battery technology.

Gaiser’s defense of the Galaxy S25 Edge falls flat against its shortcomings

Essentially, Gaiser does little to justify the Galaxy S25 Edge’s average battery life, regurgitating its selling points instead in the interview. The phone offers average battery life now, which is bound to decrease further with future software updates.

Yes, the Galaxy S25 Edge is more than just about its specs. You can truly appreciate the lightweight and slim design only when you hold the device in your hand. However, this does little to compensate for the compromises it makes in other aspects, especially in terms of battery life. And the sales figures seem to echo that sentiment.
