Galaxy Z Fold 7 Surfaces In Hands-On Leak, Showing Its Much Wider Design

Samsung is finally bringing some major changes to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 this year, and the first hands-on leak is showing off just how different it will be.

While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 brought an overdue redesign to Samsung’s book-style foldable, it still lagged behind many of its competitors. That includes in terms of how thick is was, and the width of the outer display. Most other book-style foldables have been using a display on the outside that’s closer to that of a normal slab device. That hasn’t been the case for Samsung, which has typically used very narrow aspect ratios for the outer display.

That’s likely changing this time around.

It’s no secret that Samsung is going for a different aspect ratio on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with a much wider outer display. A new image of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (via NotebookCheck) shows the back of the foldable, with a much wider design compared to the Fold 6. The cameras also seem much larger.

Meanwhile, SamMobile has obtained CAD files of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, showing exactly how thick the device is. When opened, it measures in at 4.54mm while it measures 9mm when folded. That’s a bit thicker than some leaks have suggested, but it’s still a drastic improvement over the prior generation. While it’s thicker than the Oppo Find N5, the difference is likely negligible. The full unfolded dimensions measure 158.43 x 143.14 x 4.54mm, contrary to a recent leak, but close to a leak from earlier this year.

The same report also includes dimensions for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, will the flip phone measuring 166.61 x 75.23 x 6.84mm when unfolded. The report also mentions 6.94mm thickness being “identical” to Flip 6, suggesting that the 6.84mm thickness is a typo.
