Xiaomi Signs ‘multi-Year’ Deal To Keep Using Snapdragon As Its Own Chip Looms

Qualcomm and Xiaomi have announced a new deal that will see Snapdragon chips continue to be used in Xiaomi smartphones, all while a new option is on the horizon.

Xiaomi recently announced that it will be releasing its own smartphone chipset, the “XRING 01,” which is rumored to be used in a new flagship-tier device in the not-too-distant future. But, apparently, that’s not going to stop Xiaomi from using Qualcomm chips going forward.

A new deal between Qualcomm and Xiaomi will see “Xiaomi’s premium smartphones… continue to be powered by the industry-leading Snapdragon 8-series” for multiple years. This includes Xiaomi using the “next-generation premium Snapdragon 8-series” chip later on this year – Qualcomm recently confirmed an event for that new chip will take place in September.

The deal doesn’t seem to rule out Xiaomi smartphones using the company’s own chipset, but it’s clear that the two brands won’t be separated for good.

Qualcomm goes on to say that it will work with Xiaomi on other devices “including smartphones, automotive, AR/VR glasses, wearables, tablets, and more.”

The full announcement follows below:
