Summary

  • Samsung is working on an AI tool that turns still images into short, realistic videos.
  • The feature may debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Z Flip 7 at the July Unpacked event.
  • Honor has already showcased a similar tool using Google’s Veo 2 model on its phones.

Samsung arguably offers one of the richest sets of AI features on its Galaxy smartphones. The Galaxy S25 series’ cross-app actions, which let you perform multiple steps with a single voice command, is one of the most impressive AI tools I’ve seen recently.

The company has also improved its object eraser, making it one of the best tools for removing unwanted elements from photos. Now, it looks like Samsung is working on yet another innovative AI feature for Galaxy devices.

According to leaker PandaFlashPro on X (via Sammobile), Samsung is developing an image-to-video AI feature for its future smartphones. While Galaxy phones don’t currently offer a built-in text-to-image or text-to-video generator, both are accessible through Google Gemini, which has recently become the default assistant on Galaxy devices.

It now appears that Samsung is building a new tool that can turn a still image into a short video using AI. It’s not yet clear whether Samsung is working in partnership with Google on this feature, but considering the close relationship between the two companies, it wouldn’t be surprising.

Galaxy AI might soon turn still photos into full-blown videos

Interestingly, Samsung isn’t the first to explore this. Chinese brand Honor has already demonstrated a similar capability on its new Honor 400 Pro smartphone (via The Verge). Their AI tool, which is based on Google’s Veo 2 model, generates a five-second video from a single photo by analyzing the image and adding realistic motion to it.

We don’t know if Samsung’s image-to-video generator will be based on the same technology, offer similar results, or even if the feature is actually coming at all. However, considering Samsung is always looking to add more Galaxy AI features to showcase during new smartphone launches, the rumor does seem credible.

The leaker mentions the feature is coming with “future smartphones,” and since Samsung introduced Drawing Assist with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 last year, this new tool could debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Z Flip 7, which is expected to launch later this summer at the July Unpacked event.
