To use Remix, your photos must be backed up to the cloud. Users will be able to choose from styles like claymation and anime, with more styles expected once the feature rolls out more broadly, according to the report. Using Remix appears to be quite simple: just tap the “+” button in the Google Photos app, select Remix, and then choose the desired art style.
A label will note that the feature uses experimental GenAI technology to generate the artwork. If you don’t like the first result, you’ll be able to regenerate it until you’re happy with it. Essentially, this tool will let you turn your photos into different artwork styles, including the Studio Ghibli art style, which recently went viral with the launch of ChatGPT’s new image generation tool.
Remix seems to be one of the new features Google has been working to bring to Google Photos. The company has been actively adding useful updates, including a new search bar for easier photo access and the ability to create Ultra HDR versions of older images.
There’s no official release date for the Remix feature yet, but since the code has been spotted in the Google Photos app source code, it likely won’t be long. With the Google I/O 2025 just a week away, there’s a good chance Google will showcase this feature on stage during the event.
