Summary
- Firmware work confirms Samsung is working on a Galaxy S25 FE with Android 16 and OneUI 8.
- The device is rumored to have the same specs as last year’s Galaxy S24 FE.
- The new device is expected to debut between September and November, with more possible leaks soon.
The Galaxy S20 FE was a hit. Samsung has made the Fan Edition devices a staple of its lineup every year since, so it comes as no surprise there is a Galaxy S25 FE in the works.

The company has already started firmware development for the S25 FE, according to new information (via Sammobile). This firmware build was spotted for the US unlocked model SM-S731U and carries version number S731USQU0AYDH. These details means the phone is likely to launch later this year.
Galaxy S24 FE hardware with Android 16 and OneUI 8

The firmware build confirms the S25 FE will run Android 16 with OneUI 8.0 out of the box. It should receive seven years of major updates like other recent Samsung phones, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
Samsung hasn’t confirmed the new device. However, several details have already leaked. Rumors about a thinner design with a flatter battery are circulating, but with no change to battery capacity. Some reports also suggest that Samsung will use the same Exynos 2400e chip found in the Galaxy S24 FE.
It will also include 8GB or 12GB of RAM, at least 256GB of storage, and a new 12MP front-facing camera. It seems it will keep the same 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, and 8MP telephoto cameras currently found on the S24 FE. It will keep the same 25W wired and 15W wireless charging speeds.
Even the fingerprint sensor and speakers will be the same as the Galaxy S24 FE. It will also keep the same IP67 water and dust resistance. All told, this looks like a carbon copy of last year’s Fan Edition, albeit a little thinner.
We’ll likely see it before the year is over
Samsung usually releases its new FE phones in the fall, which makes a Galaxy S25 FE debut sometime between September and November likely. We shouldn’t have to wait long for more leaks now that we know firmware work is underway.
Rumors about OneUI 8 have been few and far between, and to be fair, Samsung is still trying to get OneUI 7 rolled out to all eligible devices. As well, Google is expected to unveil Android 16 and I/O in a few weeks. Samsung’s timeline for this year’s Fan Edition is starting to look a little squeezed.
