Goods coming into the US from China are already taking a hit from tariffs. Security camera manufacturer Wyze has stated that it paid almost double the value of one shipment in tariffs alone. This will likely lead to raised prices for a company that has a reputation for selling inexpensive security gear.
Tariff pricing is taking hold on Chinese goods imported into the United States. It was assumed that customers would end up absorbing these costs on goods. If that really is the case, there not be any goods left after a short while, considering companies are already admitting that they’re paying more in import tax than value of the import itself.
Wyze took to Twitter/X to vocalize the exact impact of the tariff change. According to a new post, the company imported a bulk shipment of around 1,300 Wyze Cam Floodlights from its manufacturer in China. That shipment was valued at $167,215.
Just got our first tariff bill. We imported $167k of floodlights and then paid $255k in tariffs. That’s more than any of our founders were paid last year. 😅😅😅

That post states Wyze paid a staggering $255,002 in “duty.” That’s the cost slapped on top of the shipment estimated by the value of the goods imported. The current 145% tariff on the value of Wyze’s shipment comes out to just under the posted amount.
If that number seems inflated, Wyze brought receipts to douse any doubt. The company tagged on a portion of the shipping document, showcasing the exact amount it was charged to bring in the floodlights.

Wyze noted that this change would likely result in the company raising its prices after giving it some time. Wyze is known for selling affordable security equipment, and this adjustment might move them out of that space for the time being. The proposition from a commenter on moving manufacturing to the US was met with a “not a chance” from the company. Instead, it implied manufacturing would move to Vietnam.
