IBM Pledges Massive $150 Billion Investment In US Technology Sector

IBM is the latest to announce a major US investment. On Monday, the company announced that it will invest $150 billion in the US over the next five years. That’s not all; it will be investing an additional $30 billion to expand manufacturing of its quantum computers and mainframes.  

IBM commits $150 billion in investment to boost US technology opportunities

As you may know, US President Donald Trump recently announced a higher tariffs policy to boost local manufacturing. IBM’s decision on US investment comes as it looks to stay aligned with the president’s goal. Remember, not every tech product is subject to Trump’s aggressive tariff policy. As of now, chips, smartphones, computers, as well as other tech devices and components, are exempt from the tariff. No one knows how long it will be like this. 

Speaking about the investment, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, in a press release, said, “We have been focused on American jobs and manufacturing since our founding 114 years ago, and with this investment and manufacturing commitment we are ensuring that IBM remains the epicenter of the world’s most advanced computing and AI capabilities.”

IBM says this move will help America become a global leader in computing and boost the economy. The company also plans to build and assemble a quantum computer system in the US. Well, IBM isn’t the only tech giant that has committed a big investment in the US.

Apple and NVIDIA have also announced hefty investments

Previously, Apple and NVIDIA both announced plans to invest $500 billion over the next four years. NVIDIA plans to use the investment to build AI infrastructure in the US.

Before announcing a big US investment, IBM and Qualcomm partnered to integrate the former’s AI-powered workflow optimization tools into the latter’s enterprise tools. Not to forget, IBM has also partnered with Meta last year to form an open-source AI alliance.
