Android Auto’s Latest Update Rolling Out As V14.3 Launches In Beta

Google is in the midst of rolling out its latest Android Auto update to users while the new version 14.3 update has just arrived in beta.

Android Auto 14.2 started its rollout via the stable channel earlier this week and, over the past few days, has become a bit more widely available. This rollout is a bit slower than most, but it’s steadily arriving for more Android Auto users. As we’ve previously reported, and as per the usual pattern, there are no significant user-facing changes in Android Auto 14.2.

Right on cue, though, Google has released the first beta for Android Auto 14.3 in the past few days.

The new update is also minor in terms of user-facing changes, but also lacks anything under the hood. As a part of our usual APK Insight teardowns, Android Auto 14.3 contained no major changes or strong hints towards the future.

About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” post, we’ve decompiled the latest version of an application that Google uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we’re able to see various lines of code within that hint at possible future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ever ship these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We’ll try to enable those that are closer to being finished, however, to show you how they’ll look in case that they do ship. With that in mind, read on.

A handful of strings were added to the app that say “Play,” “Stop,” and “Settings,” but there’s not much context available. The mention of “settingslib” suggests this is coming from a generalized library of sorts, but it could also be related to the ongoing work on local media controls that we’ve spotted in the past. The strings in isolation, though, don’t offer enough context to say anything for certain, though.

  • Play
  • Settings
  • Stop
