Five New IPhones Are Coming In 2025, Apple Is Shaking Things Up
2025 might just be the year Apple rewrites its playbook, with rumors suggesting the largest iPhone launch in the company’s history. According to the rumors, Apple is set to launch as many as five new iPhones in 2025. Assuming the rumors are accurate, it could be Apple’s biggest iPhone launch to date.
Based on Apple’s releases in the past few years, it’s safe to assume that the iPhones launching this year are the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Some of you might wonder why the iPhone 17 Plus is missing from the list. Rumors suggest that Apple plans to replace the Plus model with the iPhone 17 Air (or Slim, depending on its final name) in the 2025 lineup.
As for the fifth rumored model, it might come in the form of the fourth-gen iPhone SE. The third-gen iPhone SE launched back in 2022 so it has been about 3 years since Apple updated the series.
The iPhone SE series, for those unfamiliar, represents a more “affordable” iPhone model. It targets consumers who want an iPhone but lack the budget or prefer not to spend extra on the flagship lineup.
Confusing on purpose?
With that being said, five new iPhones coming in 2025 feels like a lot. Like seriously, as mentioned previously, this would represent Apple’s largest launch to date. So far the company has been steadily releasing about four new models per year. Last year Apple released the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
This year the company could release the iPhone SE 4, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. This would be extremely confusing to customers who might end up having a hard time deciding what to buy. Perhaps this is done on purpose.
Apple is quite smart in pricing its products and its features. The company has a knack for somehow managing to include just enough features, but not enough where it could compel users to opt for the next (and more expensive) tier.
For instance, the cheaper iPad models are tempting compared to the Pro models because of pricing. But Apple has cleverly opted to exclude certain features, like a ProMotion display, to make customers feel like they’re missing out. Apple also usually includes more advanced camera features in its Pro iPhone series, so customers who are keen on photography might end up feeling like the base models won’t be as good.
This approach might push customers unhappy with the iPhone SE’s specs to upgrade to the more expensive base iPhone 17 model. The same could apply to the iPhone 17 Air, where there are rumors that Apple may compromise on certain specs or features to get it to be as slim as it is.
Customers who dislike these compromises might choose to spend more on the Pro or Pro Max models.
(Not) learning from past mistakes
While Apple knows what it’s doing, it doesn’t mean the company doesn’t have its share of flops. Some of you might recall that back in 2013, Apple launched the iPhone 5c. It serves as the predecessor of the iPhone SE series. Unfortunately, it kind of fell flat on its face.
Another more recent failure would be the iPhone mini-series. This debuted in the iPhone 12 and saw one upgrade in the iPhone 13 before Apple called it quits. It was surprising considering that many praised the handset’s smaller design, but ultimately it didn’t quite catch on.
This leads to the concern that Apple’s large iPhone lineup for 2025 could end up backfiring on the company. Giving customers more choices is a good thing. But sometimes too many choices could result in customers walking away if they cannot decide.
Whether this strategy pays off for Apple or backfires remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure, though, Apple is shaking things up for 2025.
