The Pebble is coming back, with the new “Core Devices” reboot preparing to launch in the next few weeks, and a neat USB-C adapter now being shown off for the Core 2 Duo.
It’s been several years since Pebble smartwatches were available on the market, but they’re coming back. Following Google’s opening of the source code for PebbleOS, a new effort to produce hardware for the platform was started. The Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 are reboots of the Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2, and set for release in the coming months.
Original Pebble founder and the man behind the Core Devices reboot, Eric Migicovsky, shared a thread on Twitter/X with an early look at the packaging for the Core 2 Duo, the new version of the Pebble 2 smartwatch. The packaging is simple (and doesn’t show an included band), and Eric showed off the charger included with the device.
The Core 2 Duo will be using the same connector as prior models, but will ditch a dedicated cable for a neat USB-C adapter that was designed by Nomad. This is the same adapter that Nomad launched a few years ago and given away essentially for free, as it debuted right around the time that Pebble went out of business.
The Core 2 Duo is set to ship in May, though customers may end up paying more than they expected due to the ongoing tariff situation.
