Google Engineer Claims Pixel 10 Could See Faster Boot Speeds

Google is going all-in on the Pixel 10 series and its Tensor G5 chipset. According to new notes found in Android’s open-source code, a Google engineer claims the Pixel 10 will boot up 30% faster. This seems to go against the previous rumors that suggest that the Tensor G5 might not be a massive performance upgrade over its predecessor.

According to the notes from the Google engineer, the Pixel 10 is getting a 30% speed boost. It also says the Pixel Fold now loads 25% faster, though some believe this actually refers to the upcoming Pixel Fold Pro. This means that the Pixel 10 should feel snappier and more responsive.

The Tensor G5 is Google’s first truly custom-designed chipset. This marks a big departure from earlier Tensor chips, which borrowed heavily from Samsung’s Exynos architecture. Google will build the Pixel 10’s Tensor G5 on TSMC’s 3nm process. This gives Google more control over the chip’s behavior.

Goodbye Samsung ISP

That being said, it does have some risks attached to it. Ditching Samsung also means giving up the company’s built-in Image Signal Processor (ISP). This is the hardware that has helped Google’s Pixel phones produce some of the best photos on any smartphone. This is also why Google is building its own ISP from scratch. The company is aiming for tighter coordination between the CPU, GPU, and camera software. If it works, we might finally see the kind of AI-powered image processing that gives Google a real edge over competing devices like the iPhone.

The Pixel 10 will be the first phone to showcase Google’s chip design independence. Google never really positioned its Pixel devices to compete with other mainstream Android brands. So far, Google’s Pixel phones serve as a way for Google to showcase an optimized version of Android. Maybe that will change if the Tensor G5 performs as well as the reports say.

In any case, the Pixel 10 series will most likely debut this August, but maybe Google will have more information to share at Google I/O 2025. The Pixel 10 lineup will consist of the base Pixel 10, the Pixel 10 XL, the Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
