Pebble Smartwatch Reboot May Launch Tomorrow As Store Countdown Begins

It was revealed earlier this year that Pebble smartwatches may be making a comeback after Google released the source code for PebbleOS. The “RePebble” project promised new hardware – a Pebble reboot – with the backing of the original founder, and a new countdown has begun on a store.

In January, Google released the source code for PebbleOS, allowing developers to breath new life into old Pebble smartwatches (which have held up remarkably well over the year). But it also came with the reveal that Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Pebble, was working to create new “Pebble” smartwatches. We spoke to Migicovsky at the time, where he hinted that new hardware might be similar to the Pebble 2, but a timeline for release wasn’t available.

However, it looks like things are moving quick with the Pebble reboot.

An email sent out to those who signed up for updates on the “RePebble” project today teases an announcement for March 18 – tomorrow – saying that it’s “Time to get excited.”

Time to get excited!

Set your alarm for March 18  (tomorrow!) at 9am PDT – 12 noon EDT – 4pm GMT – 9:30pm IST – Midnight CST – 1am JST

The email then goes on to provide a like to a “RePebble” store – store.repebble.com/countdown – where a countdown is ongoing for tomorrow’s announcement.

It’s not entirely clear what’s being announced tomorrow, but with a store page, it’s highly likely we’ll be getting a better idea of what hardware is in the pipeline, and perhaps even pre-orders.
