This Keyboard Costs More Than Your Computer!
The keyboard segment is a world unto itself. Whether you’re looking for one for gaming or work, there’s one out there for you in virtually every price range. There are also countless designs ranging from the most classic to the most original, and even “premium” models that can cost more than your PC! This is the case with the Icebreaker, a solid aluminum keyboard as expensive as a MacBook Pro.
This sturdy solid aluminum premium keyboard brings top-notch quality
Serene Industries’ Icebreaker is all about minimalism in its design. A single block of CNC-machined aluminum forms its body, giving it an elegant, sturdy, and premium appearance. Its wedge-shaped form factor gives it an ideal angle for use as well as some “aggressiveness” thanks to its sharp bottom edge. Many could mistake it for an axe head if held in a certain way.
The keyboard boasts hot-swappable aluminum keys with RGB lighting support. In fact, the company claims that each key features micro-perforations that allow the backlighting to look even better. You can buy the Icebreaker with aluminum or polycarbonate keys to suit your typing-feel preferences.
There’s an EC11 rotary dial to which you can assign functions like volume control, brush thickness in image editing tools, and more. You can also attach accessories to it thanks to the 1/4-20 inch mounting points scattered around its body—three in the raised rear area and four on the base of the keyboard.
Price and availability
The Icebreaker is impressive in both design and tech specs, but it’s not cheap. The keyboard starts at $1500 for the wired version with a clear base, going up to $1600 if you want the wireless variant. You can also buy a wired version with Hall Effect support for $1600. Choosing between the aluminum or polycarbonate switch plates won’t impact the price of the product. However, the black base color will cost a whopping $500 extra.
Currently, the Icebreaker is available for pre-order. Serene Industries will start production once pre-orders close on January 28, so there is no set date for shipping yet.
