AMD has confirmed the launch date of its latest Ryzen 9 X3D CPUs, the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. In addition to the launch date of both processors, it has also announced pricing for both. Assuming you’ll be able to find stock on launch day, you won’t have to spend more than $700 for either model.
AMD’s CPU launch is coming hot on the heels of its latest graphics cards. The company launched its Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT on March 6. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D are poised to deliver a nice boost to performance over the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, boasting an updated 3D-V cache and more Zen 5 cores.
The Ryzen 9 9900 X3D will have 12 Zen 5 cores, while the Ryzen 9 9950X3D will have 16. Each CPU also features a slightly higher boost clock speed. However, the base clock speed is slightly lower on both. According to AMD’s specs, the 9900 X3D has a base clock of 4.4GHz and a boost clock of 5.5GHz. Meanwhile, the 9950X3D has a base clock of 4.3GHz and a boost clock of 5.7GHz. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D has a base clock and boost clock of 4.7GHz and 5.2GHz, respectively.
AMD plans to launch the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and 9950X3D on March 12
If you’re looking to upgrade your CPU and you’re planning to go with AMD, you won’t have to wait long to secure one of its two latest. AMD has confirmed in a March 7 post on X that both the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and the Ryzen 9 9950X3D will be available on March 12. This is when you’ll be able to order them, but not necessarily when you’ll have it in hand.
If you end up ordering online, then it’s unlikely that you’ll have it the same day unless you live near a distribution center that has the CPUs on hand. You’d also have to order fairly early. Of course, there also might be the option of getting these CPUs in your local store if there are any that have stock. As for pricing, the Ryzen 9 990X3D will retail for $599, and the Ryzen 9 9950X3D will retail for $699.
AMD initially announced these new CPUs back in January at CES 2025.
The “world’s best processor for gaming and content creation”
This is a bold claim to make, but it’s probably accurate. AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a hugely popular CPU choice among PC gamers. It’s also considered the best CPU for gaming out of what’s currently available. So if the new Ryzen 9 9000 series is better, then AMD’s claim is really just stating what consumers will probably decide for themselves later on.
Once these launch next week, reviews will be out not long after. Those should shed some light on how good they really are.
